Welcome to St. James National School, Durrus.
Our school is a vibrant, thriving little community linked with the Kilmocomogue Parish and St. James’s Church, Durrus. Learning is child-centered with the focus on bringing out the potential of each individual. The grounds are extensive and versatile affording excellent opportunities for outside sports. There is a large grassed pitch for soccer and athletics, a tarmacked court for ball games, a garden for vegetable growing and a little orchard.
There is always something interesting happening, It might be participating in the annual beach clean up; gathering seaweed to put on the vegetable garden, a visit from Chattyboo Theatre company or a Mad Hair Day, one of the inventive ways of supporting local charities. Coffee mornings are a regular occurrence on the calendar and are enjoyed by staff, children and the local community. School tours are much anticipated and children have enjoyed a huge variety of experienced from outdoor pursuits in Oysterhaven to the City Goal in Cork, Aqua-dome in Tralee or the Model Village in Clonakilty.
